I've been part of Stopsley Baptist for over 30 years, having had a life changing experience of God when I was 24 in the building that is now the GreenHouse. This impacted me so much I went through a whole life makeover, leading to many great adventures in and around the Luton area.
I am passionate about people finding the best version of themselves and believe ultimately this leads to an encounter with Jesus. I love meeting new people and starting new things; I often find routine saps my energy. So if you're an ideas and action person, we will probably get on well.
I have been coming to SBC now for more than half my lifetime! I did a gap year here, was married here and had my children dedicated here so it's been a significant part of my life. But throughout that time, SBC has been a place that seeks after God's heart and His will for his people which is why I love it here!
My role includes heading up the children's ministry and reaching out to those families in our community. I love finding creative ways of doing this and am often searching for random props and coming up with ideas! I enjoy baking, drinking good coffee and mooching round a farmers market. Oh and my desk is the messiest!
I enjoy spending time with friends and family (usually over coffee and cake) going to the gym and running events as part of SBC's Divine Women's Ministry.
I've been coming to SBC since I was 14 and became a Christian whilst being involved in the youth work here. I love that SBC feels like a great big extended family and that we actively pursue being light to the people within our community both here and overseas. My role as Director of Global Ministries is to envision the church family to take up opportunities to go and serve amongst people from other cultures both locally and globally. Alongside this I have the privilege of supporting members of our church family who are already doing this. It's exciting to be part of a ministry offering hope and bringing light into difficult situations - there are some incredible things happening out there and it's fantastic to be part of it, to hear the stories and see how God is working around our world.
I have been coming to SBC all of my life, and I now love working for this church! I started at SBC in January 2021 by completing an IT Apprenticeship with the church and have had various roles since then. I'm currently the Operations Manager which means I oversee the running of the building, lettings and contracts. I enjoy event planning and running Stopsley Christmas Market each year!
In my spare time, I enjoy photography, going out for food and spending time with friends.
I've been blessed with strong administrative skills so it is no surprise to me that I am working in the staff office, it is a great privilege to serve God and his family.
In my spare time I can be found plane watching, putting together a Thomas Kinkade puzzle (love his artwork) or catching up on some pre-recorded TV or sports. I am a single parent of two adult daughters. One of my favourite parts of the bible is the Book of Daniel... he was a man of principals and not preferences. No matter what challenges he faced he listened to God and followed his instructions, total obedience, I love this, it is a challenge for us all!
I have been a member at SBC since 2000 and have loved being part of the family here. Over the years I have been blessed to serve on the children's ministry teams and with the mission team - including some extended time in India.
I have three beautiful children, who fill my hours each day with love and laughter (and give me a few grey hairs) but I know that time goes too fast so I am treasuring my time with them as they grow.
Although I leave a piece of my heart in my previous professional field, I have a big piece of my heart that loves to serve, and am looking forward to using my administration and finance skills to serve the church in this role.
I love making cakes and biscuits and puddings in my spare time, it is something that I really enjoy, I like trying out new recipes and making things for other people. What I love about SBC is that there are so many things going on and so many things that you can get involved in, its a great way of getting to meet new people all the time, its lovely to be a part of the SBC church family.
My job title is Early Years Co-ordinator and my role is to oversee all the stay and play sessions that we run at SBC. This involves the day to day planning of all the craft activities, working with a large team of volunteers, planning Christian celebrations at Easter, Harvest and Christmas and building relationships with the many families who attend the sessions each week.
My husband, Jerry, and I have been attending SBC since June 1991, soon after we got married. We have two adult children who are also members of the church. We love the friendships formed over the years, and the dedicated support offered and shared within the SBC family. Over the years I have served in the children and youth ministries and have helped run a housegroup and a Beacon. I currently serve on the Welcome Team, the Prayer Team, and the Global Ministries Team.
I love spending time with family and friends, sewing, walking in the countryside and holidaying in Britain and overseas.
It is a privilege to work in the church office supporting Alex and the team with administration.
I have been coming to SBC since 2004, and have been working here as site manager since 2007. I am responsible for building maintenance and carry out repairs to site equipment when required. I deal with external contractors and I am also responsible for room and equipment set ups for all the different groups that use the building on a daily basis.
I am married with 2 children, and we attend SBC as a family on a regular basis. My hobby is model railways, and I have converted my loft into a room where I have a oo gauge layout which I have been working on over many years. I also enjoy watching football and Formula 1.
Hi, I am really enjoying working with my SBC colleagues in the office 5 mornings a week.
When I am not at work I love to go for long walks in the countryside with my wife Janet and combine my 2 hobbies as I enjoy taking photos of landscapes or birds and animals if they are silly enough to stay around long enough while I fumble with my camera. Janet would also say that I am a DIY enthusiast and have modelled myself on Homer Simpson! Huh!
I've been coming to SBC since 1983 and I still love the fact that it is a vibrant church with lots of fabulous people who just want to be friends. There are always loads of things going on like pub quizzes and socials.
I'm so glad that I discovered this church that I have been helping others to find out about it for themselves by being involved with the Alpha Courses that we run here twice yearly in spring and autumn.
I also help with transport for the seniors, taking them to their Tuesday Fellowship meetings once a month and I enjoy being part of Messy Church which happens about every six weeks.
I have three passions in my life. I am a lifelong Chelsea supporter having been brought up in a family where both sets of grandparents and parents came from Fulham. Sue and I love Italy, we first went there in 2000 and haven't stopped going ever since then and we are trying to learn the language. Lastly, I am a bit of a sports fanatic - originally I used to play as many sports as I could, now I only play Table Tennis in the local Luton League but enjoy watching all kind of sports on the TV. Oh and the fourth thing is I really enjoy working on computers!
We joined SBC when we moved to Luton in 1999 and really felt it was where God had put us and still feel that way. The warm enthusiastic way we were greeted sealed the deal for us!
What do I do in my spare time?! What spare time? Physical exercise running/football re-charges the batteries.
I love SBC because visionary people are allowed to dream, because we are meeting with all age-ranges and increasingly diverse people groups. I also love our mission focus as a church. My main role as an Elder is to help people reach their full potential in God.
I love Jesus! I also love spending time with my family and being outside. I am passionate about people and them knowing God. I love seeing people grow in their understanding of God's love and purposes in their lives.
At SBC I am on the Eldership, help with the Alpha and Discover courses, help in the children's ministry and help in town at the Oasis Centre. SBC is full of people who not only love God but want to show God's love to others. I appreciate that outward focus and the way that everyone is valued even down to the youngest child.
I love the thought that God is weaving a tapestry which from our perspective often looks like a tangle of colourful threads. My journey to SBC and through life in general looks very much like that ! I look forward to one day seeing the completed woven picture!
I am married to Dave and have two children and a mini schnauzer called Chips. When not managing an autism provision in a local secondary school I enjoy time with friends around the meal table, walks in the countryside, the odd folk concert and grabbing a get away in our cute vintage caravan.
